Having quality data does not just happen, it is a cooperative process that all educators need to be involved with. Data is how we make informed decisions about policy at school, district, State and Federal levels. The goal of the Maine Department of Education’s Data Quality Certification (DQC) Program is to support school staff in building a culture of data quality.
Data Quality Certification is available in three distinct strands (click on hyperlink for more detailed information regarding each strand):
- Data Coordination – a comprehensive look at data quality from collection and reporting to validation
- Data Entry – a focused look at data quality, concentrating on the importance of accurate data
- Program Staff – a focused look at data quality, concentrating on the impact of data on school programs
Each strand will identify the four components of a culture of data quality: accuracy, security, utility, and timeliness. Participation is limited to 20 people for each strand/location. It is, therefore, imperative to register as soon as the registration becomes available. The first day of each date listed above (i.e. Jan 12 for the Jan 12 and 13 dates) is for the Data Coordinator strand. The second day (i.e. Jan 13 for the Jan 12 and 13 dates) is broken into the other two strands: (AM Session) for the Data Entry strand and (PM Session) for the Program Staff strand. CEUs/contact hours are available thru USM for a nominal fee upon successful course completion.
Registration availability will be listed on the SLDS website as well as the Moodle site by 21 December 2011 at the following links: http://www.maine.gov/education/lds/ or http://slds.me/moodle/
